Renault's new Twizy

The Renault Twizy, the county’s first fully electric vehicle to go on general sale, has arrived in Shropshire.

“The Twizy is the first-ever fully electric urban compact two-seater. It’s a car with a bold design which is great fun to drive,” said Martin Priddy, William A Lewis Renault marketing co-ordinator.

“As you drive the compact tandem seater round town it’s guaranteed to turn heads and get inquisitive looks from passers-by. It is very nippy and easily negotiates urban traffic. It will do 60-plus miles before it needs charging by plugging into a normal domestic three-pin socket.

“There is no road fund tax and the lithium battery is leased from Renault, starting at £45 a month.

“A digital screen displays your speed, range and charge, including whether you’re reclaiming energy through the brakes or using it up accelerating.

“The Twizy is easy to drive with buttons to select drive, neutral or reverse, while the doors have no frames, glass or handles – you reach inside to open them.”

The Twizy comes in a choice of three trims and an on-the-road starting price of £6,690.
